World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) star Kane is taking his might to the political ring.
Glenn Jacobs, the former WWE wrestling villain known as Kane has announced his intention to run for mayor in Knox County, Tennessee.
Jacobs, who played the half-brother of The Undertaker during his career as a wrestler, has handed in his paperwork to the Knox County Election Commission.
Kane, 49, began his wrestling career in 1995 and made his big break in 1997 as the “Big Red Monster,” the brother of The Undertaker. Standing 7 feet and weighing 323 pounds, Kane spent over two decades squaring off with rivals under WWE. In 2013, he stripped his devilish mask and became “Corporate Kane” under the “The Authority” stable of the WWE.
Kane also manages his insurance agency business, Jacobs Insurance Associates, together with his wife. He was last seen back in November when he muscled with Baron Corbin on WWE TV show “SmackDown”.
Jacobs isn’t the first professional wrestling star to try his hand at politics in Tennessee. Jerry “The King” Lawler, who is known for his feud with comedian Andy Kaufman in the early 1980s, has made unsuccessful bids to be elected mayor of Memphis.
In an interview with WBIR last year, Kane expressed his sincere interest to run for public office. “I think the most important thing is I care very deeply about this community, like a lot of people do,” he explained. “And that’s the only reason I would consider getting into any sort of government because I do care very deeply.”
Speaking to the Knoxville News Sentinel about a potential run in an earlier interview, Jacobs said: “I have an inherent understanding because of WWE … of how a campaign works, and some of the things I would do would be unique and different.”
He’s hoping to unseat current Knox County mayor Tim Burchett in 2018.
“I think I’ll be able to reach a much wider audience that others might not be able to reach.”
