The Kingsman Surprise

Famed comic book writer Mark Millar made a surprise announcement today via Twitter. The author of Kingsman revealed that he has a sequel in the works – not coincidentally set to release the same month as Kingsman: The Secret Service’s film sequel.

This is what Mark’s tweet said:

As you can see the new comic series boasts a different title from the film sequel, Kingsman: The Golden Circle. This suggests the new series will likely proceed in an entirely different direction from the movie.

Dual Releases:

This wouldn’t be the first time Millar has participated in a dual comic / film launch for one of his properties. When the Kick-Ass comic series launched back in 2008, a film version was planned at the same time. But they were written as two distinctive entities, with appropriate changes where necessary. It looks like the Kingsman sequels are progressing in the same fashion, with both The Golden Circle and The Red Diamond releasing in September with divergent stories. It’ll be interesting to see how the the two Kingsman properties complement one another.

Surprise Surprise:

It seems like we’ve lived ten lifetimes since Kingsman: The Secret Service was first in theaters back in early 2015, and now the first full trailer for its sequel, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, has finally arrived.

Things look rough for Eggsy this time around – the young spy’s headquarters is blown to bits with a missile. But with new friends like Channing Tatum’s cowboy hat-wearing member of the Statesmen (the American version of the Kingsman), perhaps he’ll be OK.

Directed by Matthew Vaughn. And starring Taron Egerton, Mark Strong, Channing Tatum, Julianne Moore, Pedro Pascal, Jeff Bridges, and Colin Firth.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle releases in cinemas nationwide on September 22nd.
