Medical Journal Oncotarget Launches Podcast to Help Spread Word about Important Cancer Research

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y., Nov. 8, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — Oncotarget, the world’s largest peer-reviewed research publication specifically devoted to the field of oncology and cancer research, is expanding its service for authors and readers via a series of podcasts that will make it easier for scientists to probe more deeply into the journal’s vast database of research articles.

The new, multi-stream podcast series will provide subscribers with easy access to the journal’s most important and significant research by transmitting full readings of published papers, articles from our Oncotarget blog, and interviews with key authors and contributors to our database.

Podcasts will be accessible by way of StitcherBlubrry, and Soundcloud, and will span an array of topics related to oncology, including such related subjects as aging, autophagy, cardiology, cell biology, chromosomes, endocrinology, immunology and microbiology, metabolism, neuroscience, pathology, pharmacology and many others.

According to Mikhail Blagosklonny, Oncotarget’s editor-in-chief, Oncotarget’s organizational mission has always been to make exceptional research findings and information available quickly and widely to the scientific community.  The company aims to link different fields of biomedical science and allow exchange of information easily between them, as well as to eliminate borders between specialties and encourage interdisciplinary analysis, promoting easy sharing of information among disparate professionals and disciplines. Blagosklonny sees the new podcast series as another significant way for Oncotarget to deliver free access to the research published in the Oncotarget home page to its user base.

The podcast series consists of different broadcast streams, each designed to target a different set of listeners.  The three streams are divided and categorized into types of transmitted information, as follows:

  1. Full readings of published papers –These consist of audio versions of the most important and sought-after white papers in the Oncotarget journal will be broadcast in full in order to provide easier access for researchers.
  2. Interviews with authors– These podcasts consist of exciting, in-depth interviews with key authors and contributors who provide additional context and discussion beyond the white paper.  These podcasts allow listeners to hear authors discuss their experiences with the work, as well as unexpected aspects of the research, and possible future trends in the field.
  3. Selected Readings from the Oncotarget Blog – These podcasts consist of plain language discussions on topics covered in our top performing papers in order to make information accessible to everyday listeners beyond the scientific community. While many subscribers will naturally be scientists and other research professionals, others may be simply people interested in the latest developments in cancer research and news pertinent to the field of Oncology. Oncotarget’s blog-based podcasts provide non-specialized general information and are suitable and informative for a more general audience.

While these new podcasts provide an additional free service for Oncotarget’s readership, they also benefit our authors and contributors by further spreading and disseminating communication to pertinent stakeholders and other parties who may be interested in their featured research and findings.  By making the work more accessible to a wider audience, the visibility and reputation of the research is also enhanced.

Oncotarget’s service to the scientific community extends beyond the publication of white papers.  Oncotarget’s service includes publicizing the research on the Oncotarget homepage as well as its social media accounts, and dispersing it through a variety of public relations efforts.  This new series of podcasts is meant to enhance and expand the publication service that Oncotarget provides to its authors by extending the reach of authors’ work to wider audiences.

Subscribe today to the Oncotarget podcast via  Stitcherblubrry, or Soundcloud and stay abreast of the latest developments in the field of oncology and cancer research. Podcasts are free and provided as an extension of Oncotarget’s publishing service.
