Chloe Grace Moretz Reveals The One Time Fat Shaming Brought Her To Tears

Chloe Grace Moretz is a rising star in Hollywood, already admired by millions of fans worldwide, but that doesn’t mean she hasn’t struggled with her own self-esteem and body image issues. Those human failings were made all too real for the actress by one film co-star and, while Ms. Moretz isn’t naming the bully, she does admit that his words hurt.
Chloe Grace Moretz Admits Fat Shaming Made Her Cry
Chloe recently participated in a special “Power in Young Hollywood” segment for Variety and that special interview asked the actress to speak about the sexism and misogyny she has experienced within her career. The first instance to come to mind wasn’t between an executive and herself, as so many other actresses have experienced, but with a fellow actor.
Moretz recalls that a male actor, who was playing her love interest in the unnamed film, commented that he would never date her in real life. When Chloe asked what he meant by that, she says the actor told her she was too big for him, referring to her body style.
“It was one of the only actors that ever made me cry on set. I went bawling to my brother, and he was like, ‘What happened?’ And I was like, ‘He told me I was too big.’ And my brother was like, ‘What just happened?’ My brother was so angry.”
The incident occurred when Ms. Moretz was younger. She was 15 and guesses her co-star was 24 at that time. She remembers having to go back on set with him and play his lover, even though she was still hurting. Chloe says the incident made her realize that there are some really bad people in the world, because the actor had no reason to say that to her, other than to be cruel.
Chloe Grace Moretz Was Trashed By Another Co-Star
In a separate incident, Chloe Moretz related having her reputation nearly destroyed, when a younger co-star began spreading rumors about her to the set’s cast and crew. She says the rumors were false and completely out of character for her, but the actor’s lies still hurt her.
She feels certain that the actor was jealous over her position as the film’s lead and was spreading gossip to try to bring her down.
While Chloe Grace Moretz may be hurt by those kinds of bitter actions, she’s just as quick to say that she won’t let herself be defeated by such bullying.
“You’ve got to stick to your guns,” says Ms. Moretz. “I always say, get me in the room and make me audition and I’ll try and win it, and at least I’ll know then that I did my best and I gave my all.”
